LED Upgrades:

Overall average (Atlanta and PC) 60% of lights are replaced with LED lamps. Petit Science Center and College of Law have T-5 fluorescent lamps and can be replaced with LED fixtures retrofit as we renovate the space in the buildings. Parking decks S, K, N, and M are to be completed.

Laboratory Control Systems Upgrade:

Both Petit Science Center and Natural Science Center are going through laboratory control upgrade projects and the last phase is scheduled for completion by summer of 2025. PSC floors  6,7, 8, and 9 are complete and currently working on the 3rd and 4^th floors. NSC floors 3, 4 and 5 are complete and currently working on the 2nd floor. By installing the latest controls systems and occupancy sensors, we anticipate reducing energy consumption in the labs during unoccupied times.

HVAC Water Condensate Recycling:

Petit Science Center, Research Science Center, Natural Science Center HVAC systems we have condensate recovery systems. They recover HVAC condensate water and recycle it for cooling towers thus resulting in water savings. Estimated savings for PSC are 537,005 gallons per year. 

HVAC Cooling Tower Smart Metering:

We use a smart metering system for the HVAC cooling towers (19 buildings) which captures water evaporation data and avoids outflow to City’s sewerage system. Every year we document and apply for credit. From October 2022 to October 2023, we received credit in the amount of $1,046,768 from City of Atlanta (Atlanta campus) and Dekalb County (Clarkston, Decatur, and Dunwoody campuses). Based on the credit provided, the utility company will reduce the bill for that amount prorated for each month.
